The planned US strike was called off after an appeal by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Qatari intervention. Doha conveyed assurances that Iran would honor its commitment under a memorandum of understanding to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

The assurances were relayed in phone calls with the White House.
