Finance Ministry plan to dismantle Education Ministry, shift 200,000 workers off state payroll...

Israel's Finance Ministry is preparing a plan to transfer oversight of more than 21,000 preschools for ages 3-6 and some 5,600 elementary schools from the national Education Ministry to local municipal authorities.

The proposed changes would dismantle the Education Ministry in its current form and shift approximately 200,000 teaching staff off the state payroll.
