As Preakness moves to Sunday, the 153-year-old race could see first-time Orthodox attendees...
The Preakness Stakes will move from Saturday to Sunday beginning in 2027. Baltimore’s Orthodox Jewish community, previously unable to attend due to Shabbat observance and synagogue attendance, may participate for the first time in the race’s 153-year history.
The change aligns the event after the Kentucky Derby and before the Belmont Stakes. Local Orthodox residents have historically heard the Saturday crowds from nearby but could not join because of religious restrictions on travel and activities.
