A far-left Michigan Senate candidate faces scrutiny after reports that his birth mother, Fatten Fathy Elkomy, worked at the Islamic American Relief Agency from 1999 to at least 2004.

The Treasury-designated group was accused of funneling funds to Osama bin Laden, Hamas, and the Taliban and pleaded guilty to sanctions violations in 2016 before dissolving.
