A 65-year-old member of the Germany-Israel Friendship Association was attacked in Germany by a young Syrian man. The assailant struck the victim for wearing a pin with the Israeli flag, fracturing a vertebra in his back.

Police arrested the suspect on suspicion of attempted murder with indications of an Islamist motive. The chairman of the friendship association said those who demonize Israel create the atmosphere enabling such attacks.
