Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) said at the Aspen Security Forum that the U.S. war with Iran has damaged American reputation and capacity in the Middle East. He argued that Gulf states must now lead negotiations with Iran over the Strait of Hormuz and the region’s future.

The comments were made during a panel discussion on Thursday.
