New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani stated that suffering in Gaza did not begin or end on October 7 and continued throughout what he called Israel's 'Gaza genocide. ' He also accused Israel of apartheid and war crimes while mourning those killed and abducted in the October 7 attacks.

The remarks came during discussion of the Israel-Hamas war and the Gaza ceasefire.
