The three watches of the night...

The Talmud in Berakhot 3a records that the Sages identified specific night hours when heavenly cries could be heard.

These cries express divine sorrow over the destruction of the Temple, the burning of the sanctuary, and the exile of the Jewish people among the nations because of their sins.
