New York Mayor Mamdani publicly called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a war criminal. He urged the federal government to detain Netanyahu during his visit to the United States.

Mamdani conceded that he lacks any authority as mayor to arrest the Israeli leader himself.
