An Illinois community dedicated "Hersh's Fridge," America's first kosher community fridge, in honor of Israeli-American Hersh Goldberg-Polin. He was kidnapped from Israel on October 7, 2023, and later murdered by Hamas in Gaza. The 24-hour fridge supplies free food to anyone in need while preserving privacy and dignity.

Hersh's parents, Rachel Goldberg-Polin and Jon Polin, attended the dedication. Jon described his son as an idealist who sought to improve the world. Organizers noted Hersh's commitment to ending hunger and conflict and expressed intent to expand similar projects.
