Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that Egypt could join a new defense alliance with Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan once technical issues are resolved. He described the pact as a NATO-style mutual defense arrangement.

Fidan insisted that Iran is not the target of the proposed alliance.
