The University of Haifa has launched a four-year plan to cut 160 million shekels after its budgetary pension fund was exhausted. The measures have led to 170 lecturers being fired or having positions reduced, mainly affecting junior faculty.

The university states it remains in a period of academic prosperity and financial strength.
