Senior Iranian official Mohsen Rezaei claimed that Tehran prepared to launch a retaliatory military strike against three targets inside Ukraine but canceled the operation after Kyiv issued an official apology.

The statements follow heightened tensions after a Ukrainian strike in late July on an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea.
