The Battle for the Future of American Judaism Has Already Begun...
JNS editor-in-chief Jonathan Tobin and DePaul University Law Professor Roberta Kwall discuss deepening divisions within American Jewry. They note that support for Israel, once a unifying factor, has become the main source of polarization, with many liberal and unaffiliated Jews distancing themselves and a minority actively opposing Zionism.
Kwall argues that a Jewish center can be rebuilt around shared principles, including recognition of Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish and democratic state, and by strengthening Jewish education and tradition to foster common ground across political differences.
